The program plans to enroll no more than 90 students in 2027, with each university admitting between 20 and 40 students.

1. Nationality

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports. Applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and have subsequently acquired foreign nationality must have already obtained foreign nationality and completed the procedures for renouncing Chinese nationality.

2. Academic Qualifications

Applicants must:

·be undergraduate students majoring in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology;

·obtain a bachelor’s degree between June 2026 and July 2027;

·and rank among top 20% in their undergraduate major/program at their home universities in terms of overall academic performance at the time of application.

3. English Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:

·be from an English-speaking country and have English as their first native language;

·have completed their undergraduate education in a program taught entirely in English;

·or have obtained, within the two years before the application deadline, one of the following minimum English-language test scores:

IELTS: 6.5

TOEFL iBT:90  (New TOEFL：4.5 )

Duolingo English Test: 110

PTE Academic: 61

4. Academic Interest and Research Commitment

Applicants should have a strong academic interest in the discipline, intend to pursue a PhD in that field, and be committed to conducting in-depth research in the future.

1. Application Period

From 10:00 on Monday, September 28, 2026, to 24:00 on Saturday, November 14, 2026.

Unless otherwise specified, all times in this announcement are in Beijing Time.

2. Application Procedures

Eligible applicants should visit the website at https://www.justcoolphd.cn and click “Apply Now,” complete the required information, and upload the following documents:

(1) Valid passport information page.

The passport must be valid until March 1, 2028, or later.

(2) Certificate of highest academic qualification or degree certificate.

Recent graduates must submit an original certificate of expected graduation issued by their university. If recent graduates are from universities outside China, they are also required to submit a degree authentication report by Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, Ministry of Education, P.R.China（CSCSE) prior to enrollment. For versions in languages other than Chinese and English, a notarized translation must be provided.

(3) Complete academic transcripts of the applicant’s highest level of education. For versions in languages other than Chinese and English, a notarized translation must be provided.

(4) Two letters of recommendation.

The letters must be original documents in Chinese or English written by professors in the applicant’s academic discipline and must bear the recommenders’ signatures.

(5) Proof of English-language proficiency and relevant scores.

(6) Certificate of Non-Criminal Record.

(7) Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Original documents in Chinese or English. The physical examination results are valid for 6 months.

(8) Nationality certification documents. Applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and have subsequently acquired foreign nationality must submit a Certificate of Renunciation of Chinese Nationality issued by the People's Republic of China and the proof of cancellation of Chinese household registration.

Note：Applicants who previously held a Travel Document or an Exit-Entry Permit of the People's Republic of China must provide the corresponding material above.

(9) Other supporting documents.

Applicants may submit award certificates, published academic papers, and other documents demonstrating their academic ability and overall qualifications.

3. Applicants are required to select their intended major only at the time of application. The choice of target universities will be made after successfully passing the interview.

By the end of November, 2026: The Admissions Committee will assign designated personnel to review applications. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and have submitted complete application materials will be shortlisted for the written examination based on merit. Applicants will be informed of the results via the application system or email.

December 12, 2026 (Saturday), morning and afternoon: Applicants are required to take closed-book written examinations, which are tentatively scheduled to be conducted remotely online. The examination will consist of two subjects related to the applicant's intended major. Each subject examination will have a duration of 2.5 hours (divided into two sessions) and a maximum score of 100 points.

By end of December, 2026: Applicants may check their written examination scores and whether they are qualified for an interview.

January, 2027: Applicants are required to attend the interview as instructed in the notification, which will generally be held online remotely. Applicants who pass the interview will proceed to select their target universities. Once the university confirms acceptance, a preliminary admission offer will be sent. Students must confirm their acceptance within one week of receiving the offer.

February, 2027: Universities will issue formal admission notices to students.

Spring or Fall semester, 2027: Admitted students who have obtained a bachelor's degree and meet the enrollment requirements shall register with the university to commence their doctoral studies.

 1. After the application closes, all further notices will be posted on the application system. Please check the system regularly and respond in a timely manner. Details regarding the written exam will be announced separately.

2. Enrolled students will register and pursue their Ph.D. at their admitting university, with English as the language of instruction. They are also allowed to take courses from the other two partner universities.

3. Upon completion of the academic requirements stipulated in the program and successful defense of the doctoral dissertation, students will be awarded both the Doctoral Graduation Certificate and the Doctoral Degree Certificate by the university where they are enrolled.

4. Enrolled students will receive internationally competitive financial support, including the JUSTCOOL: PhD fellowship, full tuition waiver, free accommodation, research/teaching assistantship, and free medical insurance.

5. Applicants who make it to the interview but are not selected for this program will have the opportunity to be admitted to the regular graduate programs of the universities they applied to.
